The study is aimed at non-technical personnel in operating companies as well as personnel in well service companies and drilling companies offering products, equipment or services within well servicing.

About this course

After completing this course the student should be able to describe the composition and use of drilling mud. They should be able to check the quality and describe the importance mud has on
operational safety during drilling. In addition they should be able to list the various chemicals in
cement slurries and specify their functions. They will describe the equipment and its use as well
as perform calculations for primary cementing, balanced plug cementing and squeeze
cementing. Students should also be able to describe the operational use of other drilling fluids
and their main functions. They should be able to check a service fluid’s composition and
explain how corrosion and other problems can occur when using such fluids.

Introduction courses or relevant professional background.

This web based course is in accordance with the guidelines from The Norwegian Oil Industry Association and covers the official Norwegian syllabus for Technical College, Petroleum Technology Faculty. The course is equivalent to 75 hours normal tuition in this subject.
