This course aims to update candidates upon the significant differences between the 16th and 17th editions of BS7671. It will focus on the main additions and alterations that have been incorporated in the 2008 (17th) edition. Suitable for: This course is suitable for anyone involved within the electrical industry or requiring a good working knowledge of BS 7671, who has already achieved the City & Guilds 16th Edition 2381 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671: June 2001).

17th Edition Electrical Wiring Regulations Update


The 17th Edition of the Electrical Wiring Regulations was introduced into the Building Regulations in January 2008.

A 17th Edition Update is available for existing electricians that currently hold the City and Guilds 2381 16th Edition.

The 17th update focuses on relevant changes to Building Regulations legislation that was introduced in January 2008.

This course is not available to people that have not previously held 16th Edition.

Course Outline

There are eight units making up the course relating to Parts 1-7 and the Appendices of BS 7671:2008:

  • Scope, object and fundamental principles
  • Definitions
  • Assessment of general characteristics
  • Protection for safety
  • Selection and erection of equipment
  • Inspection and testing
  • Special installations or locations
  • Appendices

Please note: Where a topic is listed, only those parts of that topic that have changed will be taught and assessed. At the end of the course the will be a 30 question multiple choice online test covering the underpinning knowledge relating to the content and application of BS 7671 17th Edition. Candidates are required to bring a current copy of BS7671:2008 (Red book) and a copy of the On Site Guide With them for use on this training course.
