SENTINEL MACHINE CONTROLLER COURSE MTR

Course Content: Stage 1
The following modules are part of the Sentinel scheme and are trained on this course:
Core Module: This module is taught on day 1 of the course and is mandatory. However, if the candidate has an existing Sentinel MC competency, this will not have to be completed as they will have been taught that previously and they can start from day 2.
Module 1: This is the RRV generic module (machine controller module).Only applies if the candidate does not hold an RRV module
Module 2: This is the 360 degree non lifting module.

Objectives:
On successful completion of the course the Candidates will meet the objectives of the:-
· Core Module
· Module 1 - Generic RRV module
· Module 2 - Machine Controller Non-lifting Module

Machine attachments:
As this is a non lifting course, the only attachment is a bucket.

Candidate Suitability:
Must have a valid PTS & COSS certificate without medical restrictions and experience of the Permanent Way.

Training Methods:
Parcipative training, one-to-one training, involving all candidates to assist developing group dynamics, coaching and mentoring.

Course Outcome - Stage 2:
A Provisional Sentinel Card and secure counterpart valid for four months will be awarded to candidates achieving the required standard and they must then be mentored in the workplace.

Post Course Requirements - Stage 3:
The mentor will countersign the Candidate's log book entries and the Employer must inform the NCCA that the candidate is ready for a workplace assessment which must be completed with in 4 months. Failure to carry out this stage within the 4 months will result in the candidate having to repeat stages 1 and 2.

Post Course Requirements - Stage 3:

Post Course Assessments - Stage 4:
The candidate must undergo a workplace assessment after stage 3 has been completed by a licensed Sentinel Assessor and the NCCA informed of the outcome. If the candidate is successful, NCCA will issue a new full Sentinel Card which will be valid for 2 years from the date of Assessment. If the candidate is not successful the candidate has to go back to stage 1 I.e. initial training.

Trainers:
The course is delivered by licensed OTP MC/CC/TL Trainers and has substantial experience in the Rail Industry. They are qualified vocational assessors (D32/D33 or A1) and hold City and Guilds 7331 or equivalent instructional techniques certification.
