About this course

In order to qualify for this course students will need; *English Language GCSE at grade B, together with at least four other GCSE subjects with good grades. GCSE in English Literature is welcome, but not essential. Applicants coming from Secondary Education must provide evidence of sound attendance and a good record of achievements.

What will I study?
During this course study will focus upon the analysis of Literature and understanding of English Language. Study will also focus upon the ways in which different writers have approached similar subjects and the ways in which language and style are affected by change over time and contextual variation. Students will progress to apply the knowledge, understanding and insights gained from literary and linguistic studies to transform an original work into a different genre or sub genre and will use appropriate terminology when analysing texts. Progress is assessed through weekly homework on this course.

How can I progress?
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to go into Higher Education and follow a course in English, English Literature or Media Studies. There are many career openings. Past students have become journalists, teachers, lawyers, librarians, or have pursued careers in business and administration.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course students will need; *English Language GCSE at grade B, together with at least four other GCSE subjects with good grades. Course Structure
The course is divided into 4 core units. There are elements of both coursework and exams, all designed to develop students knowledge of English Literature and the understanding of English Language. In order to gain a full AS/A2 Level in English Language & Literature these units will be studied; AS * Introduction to Language and Literature Study (exam). * The Changing Language of Literature (coursework 2 parts) A2 * Talk in Life and Literature (exam) * Text Transformation (coursework 2 parts) Set texts for course Module 1 = Anthology of texts on central theme. Module 2 = Alice in Wonderland and Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone. Module 3 = Shakespeares Hamlet. Module 4 = List of prescribed literary texts (choose 2 from list).
