AS Course ContentYou will study 3 units:·Promoting Quality Care·Communication in Care Settings·Promoting Good HealthFor A2 you will study 3 further units, covering topics such as anatomy and physiology, care practice and provision and child development or research. The course is highly supportive of the L3 Communications Key Skills qualification and will enable you to achieve this through aspects of your coursework.Work Experience - coursework requires visits to various care settings and contact with client groups. Methods of TeachingExamined units are taught in a classroom environment but the course is also very student-centred enabling you to develop independent research skills and also learn to work as a team member through a variety of practical tasks and activities linked to your coursework. Methods and Patterns of AssessmentFor both the AS and A2 units one unit will be examined and externally marked. The other two units are coursework which are internally assessed and externally moderated. Marks for individual units will be accumulated and a final grade from A* to E will be awarded.Financial ImplicationsIt is required that students buy a text book (approx. cost £20).The College has a Student Support Fund for students who have difficulty meeting these costs.Career PossibilitiesWe particularly recommend this course alongside other AS level subjects such as Sociology, Psychology and the biological sciences. Postgraduate careers frequently followed by our students include nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, teaching and social work. This subject is strongly recommended to students interested in medicine as a 4th AS subject as it provides an insight into important aspects of the care of service users and the working of health services.
