A2 LEVEL PSYCHOLOGY
Entry Requirements
An interview is required. Students need to have
completed an AS Level. To complete the full A Level in 1 year (AS plus
A2), students must enrol for both courses. There are no entrance
requirements for the full A Level.
Due to the large amount of
reading and the analytical nature of the course, students who have
difficulty with English Language are advised not to take this course.
Description
This
is the second year of the A level Psychology course. Students who wish to
complete the A Level in one-year can combine this course with the AS in
Psychology run on Thursday evenings. This A2 course aims to deepen and
further develop students' understanding of psychology.
Course Content
There
will be two essay-based examinations, assessing units, 4 and 5 of the A
level specification.
Unit 4: Personality, Development and Aggression.
Unit
5: The synoptic element that assesses the whole of the A level
specification and includes therapies and ethical issues.
Unit 6:
Coursework - students complete a research project in psychology.
Students
are reminded that this is an academic course and they must allow time for
private study and home assignments in addition to lectures.
Where a
course is aimed towards an assessment/examination, it is expected that all
students will enter for the qualification.

Progression
There are many fields of work that
psychology is useful for. Some may require further study and/or
professional qualifications. Clinical Psychology & Counselling Helping
people with mental health or emotional difficulties. Educational
Psychology Helping children who are experiencing difficulties in their
school/learning environment. Personnel/Human Resources Helping companies
to recruit suitable staff and helping those staff to perform at an optimum
level. Child Care Looking after children and encouraging their social and
mental development. Market Research Surveying people's attitudes to
consumer issues/politics etc.
