The Physical Education syllabus takes a multi-disciplinary approach encouraging the development of different methods of enquiry drawn from a wide range of disciplines, with the focal point being the performer and the performance. The syllabus is based on the interaction between the theory and practice of physical education.

What Will I Learn On This Course?

The course aims to:
· provide a knowledge and understanding of participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle.
· develop understanding and problem solving skills (interpretation and evaluation)
· develop planning and practical skills for effective performance
· foster an ability to relate practice to theory and theory to practice
· develop an understanding of the scientific, socio-cultural and environmental factors which influence physical education
· provide an experience which is valuable both as a means of personal development and as a foundation for employment or more advanced study.

Written examination (2 hour paper)

Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in physical education

Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical education
Written examination (2hour and 30 minute paper)

The improvement of effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in physical Education

After The Course

An Advanced level qualification in the subject is rapidly becoming an essential qualification for specialist study in P.E. and Sports Studies in higher education, and it is also a suitable qualification for other areas of study.

The syllabus provides an excellent foundation for students intending to pursue careers in teaching and coaching, the leisure industry, recreational management, the health and fitness industry and professional sport.

Subject Combinations

This syllabus relates well to other A levels in the social sciences and natural sciences and to some unit components of OCR National in Sport.
