Course Aims

To give foundation training and assessment towards the achievement of a Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) Trained Operator Card.

• Establishing the weight and dimensions of loads and communicating this information to the crane operator
• Selecting appropriate lifting tackle, attaching and detaching it correctly and safely
• Directing the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights / dimensions, giving clear and unambiguous signals in such a manner as to ensure the safety of personnel / plant
• Determining the serviceability of lifting tackle, maintaining and storing it correctly
• The duties and responsibilities, as required by statute, of a slinger / signaller
• The effects of load movement on the stability of a crane
• Potential hazard associated with crane operation and how to overcome them
• The effect of varying the angles of multi-leg slings and how to calculate their safe working loads
• Methods of establishing weights and dimensions of loads
• The standard code of signals
• Operator problems of crane control
• Rated capacity indicators
• Crane safety devices

Completion Certificate
Upon successful achievement of both the Theory and Practical Tests delegate will receive a CPCS Trained Operator Card which is valid for two years.

Please be advised that in order to undertake this course you will need to supply the following information at the time of booking: delegate’s full name, date of birth, national insurance number, CITB number and the date that the CSCS Operatives Health and Safety Touch Screen Test was passed. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT ALL DELEGATES MUST HAVE A VALID CSCS TOUCH SCREEN TEST OR THEY WILL BE UNABLE TO SIT THE COURSE AND NO REFUND WILL BE ISSUED.
