Accounting is a relevant subject for students who are interested in pursuing a career in either accounting specifically or business generally. Prior knowledge of the subject in not needed.

What modules are covered?

AS Level: Topics you will study:

Unit 1: Introduction to Financial Accounting:

We look at business documents, double-entry book-keeping, how to produce the final accounts of the business, amongst other things.

Unit 2: Financial and Management Accounting:

This unit develops the knowledge gained in the first. We look at final accounts of sole traders and limited companies, and start to look at Management Accounting, a whole new branch of accounting.

 

A2 Level:

Unit 3: Further aspects of Financial Accounting:

This unit looks at more advanced accounting techniques required to deal with businesses that don’t keep a full set of records; accounting for a partnership, and more.

Unit 4: Further aspects of Management Accounting:

This unit looks at accounting as a tool for providing information to management to aid decision making.

The awarding body for both AS and A Level qualification is AQA

At AS there is one examination paper for each unit
At A2, again, there is one examination paper for each unit.What is the entry process?

Please apply online or alternatively you are able to collect an application form for completion.  Following receipt of application an invite for you to attend a formal interview will be issued.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 2

General entry requirements of at least 5 GCSE qualifications of grade C or above.  These are to include Maths and English Language at grade C or above. Students do not need to have studied any accounting before.

 Offers subject to a satisfactory School Report. 

What else do I need to know?

Other subjects you may wish to study Accounting fits in with Business Studies, ICT, and Humanities.

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

You may decide to continue with accounting as a degree subject at university, or you may decide to study Business Studies to broaden your knowledge of various aspects of business e.g. human resources, management, marketing and so on. Alternatively you may wish to go into employment and study towards professional accountancy exams.

Fees

Course tuition fees are free for UK students under 19yrs.

All students may be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc.

UK students aged 19 and over will need to pay tuition fees as well as any materials, registration and exam fees.Some adults may be eligible for free tuition.Please contact us for more fee information.

The 24+ Advanced Learning Loan

If you are 24 or over at start of this course, you can apply for a new loan to cover the course fees. There are no repayments until the course is completed and you are earning £21000 or more. Therefore if you earn up to £21000 a year there’s nothing to pay back. If you earn £22000 a year your loan repayments would be as little as £7 per month. Call us for more information.
