Unit 1:
Planning and Financing a Business

This represents 40% of the total AS Level mark
Unit 2:
Managing a Business

- Marketing and Competition
This represents 60% of the total AS Level mark
The theme of AS is on entrepreneurship and the practical difficulties faced by businesses.
A2 Units
Unit 3:
Strategies for Success
- Functional Objectives & Strategies
- Financial Strategies & Accounts
- Marketing Strategies
- Operations Strategies
- Human Resource Strategies
This represents 25% of the total A Level mark.
Unit 4:
The Business Environment and Change
- Corporate Aims and Objectives
- Assessing Change in the Business Environment

This represents 25% of the total A Level mark.
At A2 you will have to prepare for a major research task which will be based on a current business issue. You will be expected to conduct â€OEreal world†business research.
What skills do I need?
- Previous knowledge of the subject is not required.
- A genuine interest in current affairs.
A range of teaching methods are used to encourage active student involvement in your learning. Lessons will involve discussions, group work challenges, exam practice and the use of video and digital resources.
How is the course assessed?
AS
: units are assessed by written examinations one 1¼ hr and one 1½ hr.
A2:
units are assessed by two 1¾ hr written examinations.
What will this course prepare me for?
You will have a head-start in careers/degree courses in accountancy, banking, retail management, human resources and marketing. You will gain a valuable insight into the business world which will add value to your studies.
Private Study
As an approximate guideline AS subjects require 3-4 hrs of independent study each; A2 subjects 4-5 hrs each and GCSE subjects 2 hrs each.
