What will I study?
The course develops and consolidates basic concepts taught at GCSE including a detailed study of the periodic table, structure and bonding and the mole concept. You will also look at the chemistry of carbon and an analysis of energy exchanges taking place in chemical reactions. Whilst broadening your theoretical knowledge, you will develop practical skills, learning new techniques and gaining confidence handling dangerous chemicals in a safe manner.
In your second year you will develop the topics from your first year further, while individual practical work will continue to be a major part of the course in order to complement the theory and to develop more sophisticated analytical and preparative techniques.
