Course programme
A Level Classical Civilisation
This subject is about the classical worlds of ancient Greece and Rome and can be taken to AS and A Level. It can be taken as a totally new subject: i.e. you do not need to have taken it at GCSE. Much of the course revolves around the literature written by the Greeks and the Romans (plays, etc), but, for variety, there is also an element of artistic appreciation, which focuses on Greek sculpture.
Passes at AS and A Level are good qualifications for applying to universities and, if you enjoy study at A level, you could continue with it at university - there are some 350 such courses in UK universities. It is a good qualification for employment in such areas as personnel work and the civil service among others.
Exam Board / Specification: AQA (1021/2021)
Subject entry requirements: GCSE English Grade C
Exam Units:
AS
Unit 1: Greek architecture and sculpture (CIV1A)
Unit 2: Homer: Odyssey (CIV2B)
A2
Unit 3: Greek tragedy (CIV3C)
Unit 4: Roman epic (CIV4C)
