The Drama Package is a demanding and stimulating academic and practical course. It developed from a course that first piloted A Level Theatre Studies in the UK. The Drama Package is nationally recognised as providing students with a very good practical background in Drama and Theatre alongside a sound academic study. The Package supports subjects that complement each other, demanding high standards, intensive input and involvement in challenging activities.
The Drama Package is made up of two compulsory subjects that you will take for two years:
1. Drama and Theatre Studies (AQA AS and A2)
2. English Literature (OCR AS and A2)
You choose two further subjects to study as AS. Popular choices include:
· Art and Crafts
· Communication Studies
· Dance
· English Language
· Film Studies
· History
· Law
· Media Studies
· Photography
· Psychology
· Sociology

At the end of the AS year most students choose one of their options to continue at A2 alongside Drama and Theatre Studies and English Literature. Some students continue with 4 subjects at A2.
Assessment AS Drama and Theatre Studies is divided into 2 units of assessment: Unit 1: Live Theatre Production Seen and Prescribed Play - Examination 60% AS, 30% of total A Level
· Candidates' personal response to live theatre seen during the course
· Interpretation of a set play from a performance perspective
Unit 2: Presentation of an Extract from a Play - Practical examination 40% AS, 20% of total A Level
· Working in groups to develop and present an extract from a published play chosen by the candidates
· Study of an influential director, designer, theatre company or other practitioner, linked to the candidates' practical work
The assessment also includes your preparatory and development work and supporting notes. At A2 you will take 2 further units: Unit 3: Further Prescribed Plays including Pre-Twentieth Century - Examination 30% of total A Level
· Study a set pre-twentieth century play
· Study a set twentieth century play or contemporary drama
Unit 4: Presentation of Devised Drama - Practical examination 20% of total A Level
· Working in groups to develop and present a devised drama, performed in a theatrical style of the group's choice
· Research into a theatrical style chosen by the group for the practical work
The assessment will be on your performance and includes your preparatory and development work and supporting notes.
Further Opportunities This course will help you develop self-confidence, self-expression and an ability to work as an effective member of a team. These skills are appreciated by employers in a whole range of careers. You can progress to a variety of degree courses and Drama Schools.
Other Information We have plenty of theatre visits, accompanied where possible by workshops or discussions with directors or actors.
