Course programme
Duration: 1 / 2 years
If you are interested in Drama, Theatre and the Performing Arts, then this is for you. Commitment to both practical and theoretical work is essential although most of the lessons are practical. Students learn about acting, directing and designing for the Theatre through to the study of set plays and practitioners. Full-scale public productions are an integral part of the course . We visit the Theatre regularly and work with professional actors and directors. Students develop a critical awareness as spectators, considering the social, historical and cultural context and the relevance of the production to a contemporary audience. The AS year includes a combination of practical and written coursework, followed by an examined performance of a full-length play.
The A2 year includes two examined productions based on students' own devised work and adaptation of a scripted play. Both years conclude with a written examination. For practical assessment, students can specialise in Acting, Design and Technical Theatre. However, all students will be expected to engage in all three during lessons.
Qualification explained
A-Level courses are divided into two parts. In the first year you will study two units of a subject leading to an AS (Advanced Subsidiary) qualification. In the second year, you can take a further two units at A2 in the same subject to gain a full A Level. (In some subjects, the courses are divided into 3 rather than 2 units at AS and A2.)
