Qualification: AS/A Level EDEXCEL 8/9ET01

Duration: 1 / 2 years

You will be able to study an anthology of poetry on a particular theme and also analyse two novels such as as Pride and Prejudice and The Yellow Wallpaper. Coursework also includes comparison of a Shakespeare play and another written between 1300-1800 to explore a theme, aspects of style and critical opinion. Students must also produce a short creative response for example a review, or an outline pitch to the BBC where you might explain how you would update a Shakespeare play for a modern young audience. In year two, three books are analysed and compared under a particular theme, for example, relationships in poetry and novels. The significance of the cultural aspects will also be explored here. Coursework will be based on three texts from any period.

Qualification explained
A-Level courses are divided into two parts. In the first year you will study two units of a subject leading to an AS (Advanced Subsidiary) qualification. In the second year, you can take a further two units at A2 in the same subject to gain a full A Level. (In some subjects, the courses are divided into 3 rather than 2 units at AS and A2.)
