A Level in English Language and Literature (AS) £215.00 Welcome to the English Language and Literature AS course. This qualification aims to provide an integrated approach to studying literary and linguistic texts. Students will study a wide range of spoken, written and multi-modal texts seen to demonstrate ways of constructing meanings through language. As observers, readers and writers, students will be inspired by learning about spoken and written language from real and imagined worlds and they will engage with the craft of writing to create their own texts at AS level. The course should encourage students to develop their interest and enjoyment in English as they: ·use integrated linguistic and literary approaches in their reading and interpretation of texts ·engage creatively and independently with a wide range of spoken, written and multimodal texts, exploring the relationships between texts ·undertake independent and sustained studies to develop their skills as producers and interpreters of language. 004374; line-height: 150%; font-size: 18pt;">Advanced Subsidiary Level in English Language and Literature (AS) (8EL01) Knowledge and understanding: The English Language and Literature specification requires students to undertake a varied programme of study so that they show knowledge and understanding of: ·a range of spoken and written texts from different times, including at least two texts from one of the genres of prose fiction, poetry and drama and at least one other substantial written text ·some of the key constituents of language and how they function in combination to make meaning in spoken and written English ·how variations in language, form and context shape and change meanings in speech and writing ·some of the ways in which individual texts are interpreted by different readers or listeners ·some analytical and creative approaches to the critical study of texts, drawing on linguistic and literary methodologies and concepts. There is a project element to both AS and A2 awards, which expects distance learning students to evaluate existing texts and create their own original texts, demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of both Language and Literature. Your assessed work will be marked and moderated by an independent coursework marker at the centre where you sit your examinations. There may be a fee for the marking. All distance learning students should download the Private Candidates Handbook from Edexcel's website which gives you guidance on finding an examination centre and registering. Likewise, International students need to download the specific handbook for them, which will give alternative examination arrangements etc.
