Course overview

Law is the subject for you if you have a genuine interest in the Law or the English Legal System, if you enjoy an intellectual challenge or if you are interested in becoming a barrister or solicitor.

Law essentially involves the study of the English Legal System and the system of Law Making in England and Wales along with a detailed look at key aspects of Criminal Law, specifically in year two.

In your first year you will learn about who works in the English Legal System, the criminal offences of assault and battery, actual and grievous bodily harm, the law of negligence as well as the criminal and civil processes.

In second year, you will consider in detail the criminal offences of murder and manslaughter, the non-fatal offences against the person, the fraudulent and non- fraudulent property offences and the key concepts of law.

You will develop analytical skills, the skill of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Unit One - Law Making and the Legal System

Unit Two - The Concept of Liability

A Level (year two)

Unit Three - Criminal Law (Offences Against the Person)

Unit Four - Criminal Law (Offences Against Property) and the Concepts of Law

How you will learn

The majority of the course is class based; experienced and well-qualified teachers will teach you through the use of a range of learning methods including the use of comprehensive core notes, class and individual discussion, group work and independent study.

There will be the opportunity to participate in a moot [legal role play] and work placements in solicitors firms and barristers chambers.

How you will be assessed

There are two examinations for AS and two examinations for A2. There is no coursework!

Grade C or above in GCSE English Language
