The AS consists of 3 units:
Unit 1 - Introducing Travel and Tourism
The nature, structure and development of the travel and tourism industry is explored.
Unit 2 - Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
The principles of customer service are investigated and then developed and applied by the student.
Unit 3 - Travel Destinations
This unit develops research skills and allows learners to explore destinations looking at key features as well as popularity and appeal.
The A2 consists of 3 units:
Unit 4 - Tourism Development
The objectives and impact of tourism development are explored in this unit.
Unit 5 - Event Management
Students develop an understanding of the event management arena in a practical manner, actively managing a project from start to finish.
Unit 6 - Choose one from the following:
The Guided Tour - purposes and types, devising and delivering a tour.
Ecotourism - nature and purpose of ecotourism, including trends and future appeal.
Adventure Tourism - a comprehensive exploration of Adventure Tourism Activities.
Cultural Tourism - cultural characteristics and travel motivators are explored.
A-Level Structure:
The programme is in a modular format with all units being studied concurrently over the course of the academic year.
Assessment:
AS Level - Customer Service and Travel Destinations are both internally assessed portfolios. Introducing Travel and Tourism is an external assessment, a 1.5 hour examination. All units are equally weighted.
A2 Level - Tourism Development is externally assessed, in the form of a two hour examination. Event Management and Unit 6 are again portfolios, and assessed internally.
Progression from this course:
Successful candidates will be capable of progressing onto higher education programmes.

Course Costs:
If you are aged under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, the fees are 720 (inclusive of exam and admin). If you are aged 19-25 and do not already hold a full level 3 qualification, you may qualify to pay a reduced fee of 220. Please contact Student Services for details.
It is strongly advised that students purchase a recommended text book to assist them in their studies. Study visits are not compulsory, but will improve understanding of the subject matter. Costs for such visits are kept to a minimum.
