With an introduction to working effectively in accounting and finance, basic costings and computerised systems, this course will give you the confidence to move forward with your career aims. Overview
If you are keen to start training to work in accountancy and financial management, our Level 2 course will introduce you to the basics of the industry.

Entry Requirements
For potential students aged 18 or under the course requires you to have achieved GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above.
If you are aged 19+, you do not have to have achieved GCSE English or Maths at grade C and above, but will be asked to complete an initial assessment to ensure your numeracy and literacy skills are sufficient to do well on the course.

It is not requirement to be currently working in accountancy, although it will be beneficial to you.

The course will run subject to minimum numbers being reached.

Composition of the Course
On this programme you will study the following AAT Accounting Qualification 2016 units:
1. Bookkeeping Transactions
2. Bookkeeping Controls
3. Elements of Costing
4. Work Effectively in Finance
5. Using Accounting Software

The course runs for an academic year and you will be attending one session per week. There is a choice of either a daytime (10.00-2.15) or evening (5.30-9.00) session. To be successful in this qualification it is recommended that additional hours of private study are completed. Homework is regularly set.

Assessment is by computerised tests under exam conditions.

During the 12 months ending June 2015, Stockport College students’ pass-rates were as follows (the figures in brackets are the full UK pass-rates across all training providers):
1. Processing bookkeeping transactions 100% (89.9%)
2. Control accounts journals and banking 100% (87.0%)
3. Basic Costing 89.3% (94.5%)
4. Working effectively in accounting and finance 92.6% (92.5%)
5. Computerised accounting was an internally assessed unit in the year ending June 2015.

The tutors on this course are qualified accountants and have many years' experience in teaching this programme. One tutor, Stephen Field (the course coordinator), won the accolade PQ magazine’s Lecturer of the year – Public sector in 2015.

The programme takes place at our Town Centre campus.

Award Received
Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded a Foundation Certificate in Accounting - Level 2 from AAT.

Progression
Successful completion of this course will provide you with one of the entrance requirements for AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting - Level 3.

Course Fees
The fees for the course in 2015 were £825. The fee includes the AAT assessment costs and also the cost of combined text / workbooks from a leading publisher.

Fees may increase should there be a significant change to the underlying cost of providing the course, such as in periods of high inflation, or fundamental changes to course structure due to regulatory or legal obligations. In all cases we will seek to set the maximum of any annual fee rise to the greater of the Retail Price Index or 5%. The most the course will cost in the 2016-2017 academic year will be £866.

Fees are due at enrolment and an instalment plan is available. Our Payment Instalment Policy can be found here. Once you have enrolled you are liable for the full course fee, regardless of whether the course is completed or not.

You are required to register with the AAT (if not already registered) as a student member. Membership costs are currently £88 p.a. plus a £41 one off admin fee paid only on initial registration. The membership fee is the student's responsibility and is separate from the course fees.

Quality Assurance (QA)
QA systems are embedded throughout the College and the College is regulated by the AAT.
