Overview
Our Level 3 qualification in Accounting offers you the chance to build upon skills gained at Level 2. Through the study of final accounts preparation, management accounting and VAT you will gain confidence in industry practice. In addition, you’ll gain invaluable skills in spreadsheet software and understand professional ethics in accounting.

Entry Requirements
This course requires you to have achieved AAT Level 2 (or equivalent qualifications).

If you have experience but no qualifications, please complete an AAT Skills Check. This will tell you which level you would be most suited for. Once complete please email a screenshot of the result to the HE Enquiries team.

The course will run subject to minimum numbers being reached.

Composition of the Course
On this programme you will study the following units:
  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final Accounts Preparation
  • Management Accounting - Costings
  • Indirect Tax
  • Ethics for Accountants
  • Spreadsheets for Accounting
  • The course runs for an academic year and you will be attending one session per week. There is a choice of either a daytime (10.00-2.15) or evening (5.30-9.00) session. To be successful in this qualification it is recommended that additional hours of private study is completed. Homework is regularly set.

    Whilst you will normally be working in accounting, it is not necessary to be employed to join the course.

    Assessment is by computerised tests under exam conditions.

    During the 12 months ending June 2015, Stockport College students’ pass-rates were as follows (the figures in brackets are the full UK pass-rates across all training providers):
  • Accounts Preparation 81.5% (60.7%)
  • Final accounts sole traders and partnerships 84.0% (83.7%)
  • Costs and revenues 96.0% (81.1%)
  • Indirect Tax 84.0% (80.6%)
  • Professional ethics was an internally assessed unit in the year ending June 2015.
  • Spreadsheets were an internally assessed unit in the year ending June 2015.
  • The tutor on this course, Stephen Field, is a qualified accountant and has many years' experience in teaching this programme. Stephen won the accolade PQ magazine’s Lecturer of the year - Public sector in 2015.

    The programme takes place at our Town Centre campus.

    Award Received
    Upon successful completion of the course you will be awarded an Advanced Diploma in Accounting - Level 3 from AAT.

    Progression
    Successful completion of this course will provide you with one of the entrance requirements for AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting - Level 4.

    Course Fees
    The course fees for 2016 are still to be confirmed. The fees in 2015 were £1190 for 19-23 year olds and £1380 for students 24 years and over.

    The fee includes the AAT assessment costs and also the cost of combined text / workbooks from a leading publisher. Fees are due at enrolment and an instalment plan is available. Once you have enrolled you are liable for the full year's fee, regardless of whether the full year is completed or not.

    You are required to register with the AAT (if not already registered) as a student member. Membership costs are currently £88 p/a plus a £41 one off admin fee paid only on initial registration. The membership fee is the student's responsibility and is separate from the course fees.

    Quality Assurance (QA)
    QA systems are embedded throughout the College and the College is regulated by the AAT.
