Course Content: The course covers the three main AAT Intermediate Units: Cost Accounting, Financial Accounting and Preparing Reports and Returns. It is designed for people who wish to pursue a career in accounting and finance; are considering a career change to accounting and finance or are already working in accounting and finance and are looking to make progress in their career. The course will develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of manual accounting, including double entry book-keeping adjustments, financial records and preparing both cost accounts and financial accounts. The course will cover the construction, closure and transfer of account balances, production of final accounts and the VAT system. A variety of teaching and learning methods will be delivered throughout the year such as projects, lectures, discussions and exercises.

Special Features: The course is designed for people working in accounting who wish to make career progress. It is also suitable for people who wish to take up an accounting career or wish to change their career to accounting if they have a working knowledge of double entry book-keeping.

Course Format: The course is assessed in College by realistic work simulations and a final assessment in the form of an external examination. Learners who have not previously completed the AAT Foundation year will also be required to complete two additional units in Health & Safety and Working with Computers. On completion you will be awarded the AAT NVQ Level 3 in Accounting which is a nationally recognised accounting qualification.

Progression: On successful completion of this course you can progress to AAT NVQ Level 4 in Accounting. Once you have completed NVQ Level 4, you will be qualified to continue to study for the examinations of the major professional accountancy bodies.
