About this course
Students will have completed the Level II Certificate in Counselling Concepts Programme or equivalent and have access to work (either paid or voluntary) which contains elements requiring the use of counselling skills. Before places are offered, applicants will be interviewed to determine their suitability to undertake this training.

Who is the programme for? This programme, offered at the Town Centre Campus, will appeal to those whose work requires the use of counselling skills (eg. the caring roles within voluntary, statutory and private sectors) and to those wishing to train towards a career in counselling. Due to the experiential nature of the counselling training, this course may not be appropriate for people currently undergoing treatment for a mental health disorder.

This is an experiential training course during which you will be expected to share, in confidence, your thoughts, feelings and experiences with other course members, in small and large groups.
Entry to the Programme?
How is it assessed? A combination of practical skills, written assignments, learning journal and attendance through a process of self, peer and tutor assessment. Students are required to produce a video, audio tape or DVD to demonstrate counselling skills, and accompany it with a case study. This is externally marked. During regular tutorials your progress will be reviewed with the course tutor.
Future prospects? Progression onto employment which requires the use of counselling skills.
When will the programme start? The programme will start in September 2009.
How long will it take? The programme will run on Wednesdays from 4.45pm to 9pm for 4.45pm to 9pm for 36 weeks (3 terms). There is also a mandatory residential weekend.
What about the Money? The total cost for 2008/09 was 720. This includes 505 tuition fee, 62 awarding body fee, and a residential fee of 175. This is a full cost course, so we are unable to offer fee remission. Instalments can be arranged at the fees counter.
