Things to check before you book:
We recommend that you confirm the Training Centres City & Guilds Registration number and also that you enquire as to the qualifications of their staff.
In order for your painting and decorating course to run swiftly and smoothly, you should ensure that your chosen training centre has qualified Instructors, Assessors and Internal Verifiers.
Better still, visit the centre and view the facilities available.
You should be allowed access to see the training areas, chat to instructors and additionally, any existing students.
Lastly, confirm the timing of your course. If your intended course is to be achieved in blocks then be sure that you can return at a time of your choice and that you will not be left waiting for months on end.
Able Skills can offer you the opportunity to obtain a City & Guilds qualification in painting and decorating. This is an intensive 4 weeks of hands on training, during which time you will build a portfolio of your painting and decorating work. This course can be covered over a period to suit you as long as you complete the entire course within 18 months. You can train for 4 consecutive weeks or divide your weeks up. At Able Skills we aim to make our qualifications as accessible as is possible and additionally we offer a payment plan which, following a deposit, is on a pay as you train basis.
This painting and decorating course will provide you with in depth training during which time you will be assessed by our qualified painting and decorating Assessors and Internal Verifiers. The entire City & Guilds process is completed here on site at Able Skills which ensures this course is delivered using the correct procedures and without delay.
Able Skills painting and decorating course is available throughout the year and has its own designated training areas.
There are 6 mandatory Units and you must complete any 2 Units from the 7 optional units
The 6 Painting & Decorating Mandatory Units are:
006 – Painting a timber window frame
007 – Applying emulsion to wall by roller
008 – Painting doors and frames
009 – Applying oil based paint to walls by roller
062 – Removing and hanging wallpaper to walls
063 – Hanging paper to ceilings and painting
The 7 Painting & Decorating Optional Units are
010 – Rust removal and priming metal
011 – Applying paint by spraying
012 – Introduction to glazing for painting and decorating
013 – Using broken colour techniques
014 – Working with hardwood finishes
015 – Removing and refitting a water-filled radiator
064 – Introduction to artexing and coving

This will help you decide if you want to progress to a qualification and a career as a painter/decorator.This is a hands-on, practical course, it is therefore recommended you bring suitable clothing and for your own safety, steel capped footwear is essential. All tools and materials will be provided throughout your training period.

At Able Skills we try to make our courses as affordable as possible. When booking we require a deposit of £400, the remaining balance can be spread over the 4 week training period.
