Course Summary:
The Premier Leaders Academy programme focuses on the development and leadership of sport. Learners need to have a passion for sport but need not be actively involved in playing sport.
Premier Leaders help to advance the organisation and delivery of sport and leisure activities across the College and in the wider community - from organising tournaments and fixtures to leading and promoting sports activities. The programme is an opportunity for them to develop these important skills while studying academic qualifications in Sport to enhance their career prospects.

Course programme

Course Content: The course includes: An extensive programme of sports leadership opportunities Opportunities to engage with large local events such as the Ramathon, Derby 10k and health events Guidance and job evaluation from the College's Further Education Sports Co-ordinator Collaboration with sports facility managers and sports activators All learners will study a full-time Sport qualification alongside the Premier Leaders Academy requirements. For further information regarding the content of these programmes, please see our Sports Coaching and Development course pages. How will I be assessed? Learners will build a portfolio based around evidence generated by the various assessment methods in each unit. They can expect to be assessed through: practical demonstration logbooks and performance records written reports and essays presentations workbooks discussions and vivas Are there any additional costs or specialist equipment required? Learners need to purchase a kit. The cost of this will be finalised at the start of the course but is expected to be in the region of £100 and will include yearly gym membership and the end-of-year celebration event. This money should be received before November. There may be additional costs incurred for selected trips or visits. Premier Leaders will be provided with a Leadership Academy T-shirt. The College offers residential accommodation if required. What can I do after this course? Further study The course provides an excellent platform for progression to the: BTEC Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) (Year 2) University of Derby Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching Careers You may also wish to train further or to seek employment in the sports and active leisure industry as a sports leader, sports development assistant, PE teacher or health and wellness advisor. The skills gained on the course are, however, transferable to a wider range of job areas.
