:WHAT WILL THE INTERVIEW INVOLVE?
During the one hour Access interview you will get to meet fellow Access applicants and have an opportunity to discuss course issues such as timetabling, routes to University, methods of assessment, funding and support offered by the College.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?Access courses are recognised by all universities and colleges of Higher Education a route to degree level study. Late entry to Higher Education has become increasingly attractive and possible for many mature students. New subject areas or combinations of subjects are appealing to those who desire a career change or increased employment flexibility. Successful completion of this course will help you to achieve your objectives.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will study four optional Access subjects to gain the Access to Higher Education qualification.
Students must study English Studies or Human/Social Biology, Psychology or Sociology. Provided you choose at least two subjects from the above you may also choose from Gender Studies,
Health Studies or History.

On the Access course you will have an opportunity to enrol on additional qualifications such as IT if you wish. These will support your progression to Higher Education programmes, irrespective of your Access subject choices. Each Access subject requires your attendance for 3 hours per week. Specific timetables cannot be confirmed until September. Tutorials, extensive staff support and an excellent range of student support services help create an ideal environment for mature students returning to education.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
The course is designed to help you gain the academic knowledge and to study disciplines in order to apply for and gain a place in Higher Education. Many students can achieve this in one year but the course can be completed over an extended period of two years.

Task-based learning is the teaching and learning style that we adopt at the College.
This will involve you having weekly set challenges with clear deadlines that will be monitored by key tutors, with extra support available as needed. Tasks will be discussed and debated mainly in small groups with additional learning support offered outside the main timetable, if necessary.

WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Access students go on to study degrees in a variety of areas including Social Sciences, Humanities, English, Media, Nursing, Midwifery, Teaching and Business. They have subsequently gained employment in many areas including marketing, management, social work, local health, probation work and education.

The Isle of Wight College's Access to Higher Education course has an excellent progression rate where 95% of our
students go on to study for degrees and Higher Education courses in the above subjects and professions.
