Looking for a career in Blacksmithing or just have a passion for it? This course is designed to provide you the foundation skills required to work in the Blacksmithing Industry. This course also supports development of the skills required to progress onto the Access to Farriery Course. You will have time in the forge to gain the practical skills to achieve the following qualifications: NVQ Level 1, NCFE Award and NCFE Design. You will learn basic engineering skills in the work shop.

What you need to know
How will I study?

If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and Maths as well as work experience. You will undertake an NVQ Level 1 qualification together with an NCFE Award and NCFE qualification in Design. You will have a wide range of opportunities to develop your skills both practically in the workshop and theoretically in the classroom. You will not only meet the required standards but work towards exceeding them. Time will be given for you to develop your own style and techniques. The development of your personalised enterprise passport and enrichment activities fully enhance this course.
How will I be taught?

This course runs for 2 and half days a week over 36 weeks. It is made up of 2 days of practical sessions and ½ day of theory. In addition to the main qualification you will study towards L1 Maths and English functional skills.
How will I be assessed?

This course is assessed through a variety of methods according to the qualification including practical test pieces, written evidence, observations and a final craft project.
