A Level
Access courses are aimed at mature students wishing to prepare for study at university or in higher education. They offer a second chance to students without formal qualifications or to students wishing to change career direction. To succeed on an Access course, students need to be motivated, enthusiastic, able to manage time effectively and be ready to study. This course covers: Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Health Care, Psychology, Sociology, Extended Project, together with core units of Mathematics and Communication & Study Skills.
About this course
Mathematics, English and Science GCSE Grade C or above or completion of Skills for Further Study course. Individual circumstances will be looked at for applicants with qualifications that are equivalent to GCSE’s. Evidence of these qualifications, for example certificates, will be needed before an offer will be made. All applicants are subject to a formal interview.

Course programme
Achieving the Access Diploma is not based upon passing examinations and the course is assessed through a variety of assignments, taking the form of essays, presentations, tests and reports The course benefits from a range of interesting topic areas taught by well qualified, supportive and enthusiastic staff. In addition to these, separate lessons are timetabled to build the skills of communication and numeracy up to the required standard for university entry Support, guidance and regular feedback provided in personal tutorials to encourage and motivate students who may initially lack confidence in the classroom. Excellent opportunities to progress in the Health Care sector
Students who successfully complete the course would be eligible to apply for Degree or HND courses in a related subject area, with a view to a career in Nursing, Midwifery and allied Health professions.
Additional information
Although achieving the Diploma itself is not dependent on passing an examination, each module will be assessed through a combination of assignments, seminars, presentations, formal essay, tests and exams, and group discussions.
