Access to Higher Education (Education).

Overview
If you want to work with young children in a school or training environment, then this course gives you a good understanding of Educational frameworks and the importance of Educational Psychology. You will also be introduced to the use of English Literature in a learning environment. Included in the course is a 2 week work placement in a local primary school or pre-school setting. This course aims to make you feel confident in applying for Primary Education, early Years/ Childhood Studies or Educational Psychology at HE level.

Entry Requirements
You must be 19+ and must already have GCSEs English and maths at grade C or above. Certain pathways may also require GCSE Science at grade C or above. All applicants who meet the entry criteria for the course will be required to attend a workshop where they will have an initial interview with a member of the Access team.

Course Duration
The course runs over one year on a full-time basis.

Skills and Benefits
You will achive an Access to HE Diploma. Most universities will accept this as meeting the entry requirements for their course, some may require a merit/distinction profile.

Mandatory Units
Education, Educational Psychology and Children's Literature.

Optional Units
There are no optional units on this qualification.

Course Assessment
The course is continually assessed through assignment work. The modes of assessment are specific to particular subjects. They are designed to allow you to meet all the relevant assessment criteria in a manner that is stimulating, relates to the type of assessment undertaken at HE Level and where possible, addresses topical or vocational issues. Assessments include essays, practical or research reports, case studies, open or closed-book examinations and verbal, visual or IT-based presentations. All modules will include an element of time-constrained assessment which will contribute towards the final module grade.

Progression
The Access to HE Diploma allows progression to courses in education at local and national universities. Most university courses will accept the Access Diploma as an entry qualification, but there may be some degrees for which this certificate alone may not be acceptable. The suitability of the course for your ultimate career aim will be discussed at interview. Please note that whilst your tutors will make every effort to support your application for a university place, progression onto a specific higher education course cannot be guaranteed. It can be a highly competitive process, and we will try to give you realistic advice as to your chances of progression.

Course Fees
The course fees for 2016 are still to be confirmed. The fees in 2015 were £1511 (plus exam/registration fee).
