Access to Higher Education Diploma - Education

Course Aims:
To provide an in-depth introduction to subjects and areas of the curiculum that are relevant to a teaching degree. The programme is aimed at people who are returning to education or wanting a change in career, offering a supportive and friendly learning environment.

Course Content:
This Access course includes a variety of subjects including:

Core English, Maths, IT, Personal Development and Research Skills

*Learners with grade 'C' or above at GCSE in English & Maths will be exempt from these units

Education
Psychology
English Literature
Engish Language

Progression:
This course is a progression route for students wanting to enter degree courses in teaching or humanities based subjects. The course is nationally recognised by all universities and colleges of Higher Education

Awarding Body:
Open College Network North West Region - OCNNWR

Exam:
The course is modular based and mainly consists of coursework that includes essays and projects.

Access to Higher Education Diploma - Education

Level:
Level Three

Duration:
The course will run three days per week for 32 weeks starting from September through to June.

Entry Requirement
Candidates wishing to start an Access to Higher Education Diploma - Education pathway are recommended to have GCSE in English, Maths and Science at Grade C or above as Universities require these qualifications as well as recent relevant experience in a school.
For the Access programme there are no specific entry requirements. However acceptance is subject to satisfactory interview to ensure that each applicant:
* Has aims that match the programme
* Has the ability to benefit from the programme and
* Has the potential to achieve
Students who do not have the recommended GCSE grades (or equivalent) will be required to undertake a short written assessment prior to an offer of acceptance being made.
Students whose first language is not English should have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Any learners who do not have a sufficient level of written English would be advised to complete relevant ESOL qualifications prior to enrolling on a Access to HE course.
