The Diploma is a one year full-time programme which is recognised by universities as an alternative to A levels for entry to many degree courses.
The Diploma is divided into units grouped into subject areas for each of which you can gain credits. Interviews are held after January up to the start of the course which is usually in September.

Course programme

All units are class based and learning is facilitated by formal lectures, practical group work and ICT interaction. The subjects are relevant for those wishing to undertake degrees in Primary Teaching/Early Years or Humanities subjects such as English or History. Subjects offered on this Diploma can include: English Literature History Education Studies Study skills These are complemented with timetabled Study Skills and Tutorial support. More details on combinations and unit content can be discussed at the interview stage. You will develop the academic skills, knowledge and understanding to enable you to progress into Higher Education or pursue a career in Primary Teaching. This course will mainly be delivered at Leeds Trinity University, with alternative delivery offered at the Joseph Priestley Campus. The Diploma is designed for access to many HE courses both locally and nationally. Fortunately we have some excellent Universities here in Leeds. All the local Universities welcome our Access students. Leeds Trinity University, for example has a strong tradition of offering our students places for Psychology, English, History and Primary Teaching. We also have close links with Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds, who support the aims and objectives of the Access Diploma and increased participation for adult students. Students do not have to restrict themselves to local universities. They are encouraged to pick the courses best suited to their situations, needs and interests. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
