Candidates wishing to start an Access to Higher Education Diploma - Social Sciences are recommended to have GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above (or equivalents) as universities require these qualifications.

Course Aims:
To enable students to achieve a nationally recognised Access Diploma that can be used to gain entry onto Social Science or allied degree courses in Higher Education
Course Content:
Social Science is concerned with the study of contemporary social issues and problems. Students who choose the Social Science pathway will find the emphasis is on a multi-disciplinary approach and individual modules draw on the following subject areas; Sociology, Psychology and Criminology.
Core Modules: IT, Maths, English, Personal Development and Research Skills.
*Learners with grade 'C' or above at GCSE in English & Maths will be exempt from these units.
Progression:
The study of Social Science will enable students to progress on to many degree courses that could eventually lead to opportunities in a variety of careers.

Exam:
The course is continually assessed by a combination of essays, exams, presentations and individual research projects.

The course runs over three days for 32 weeks. You will be advised of the actual programme at interview.

* Has the potential to achieve
Students who do not have the recommended GCSE grades (or equivalent) will be required to undertake a short written assessment prior to an offer of acceptance being made.
Students whose first language is not English should have IELTS 5.5 or equivalent. Any learners who do not have a sufficient level of written English would be advised to complete relevant ESOL qualifications prior to enrolling on a Access to HE course.
