About this course
Students would be expected to have at least 4 GCSEs which must include English and Maths at A-C). Students with relevant work experience or work-related qualifications may have these taken into account when being considered for entry to the programme and will do a diagnostic assessment. The minimum age for entry onto the programme is 19.

Who is the programme for? The programme is for adults who are in employment, but who would like to aim for Higher Education to study social sciences, perhaps with a view to gaining employment in the field of social work.
What will I study? There are compulsory learner support/study skills units. In addition, students study a range of units in sociology, social policy, health and welfare.
Entry to the Programme?
How is it assessed? Students accumulate the required credits (60 in total) by means of assessed work. Coursework will take the form of a range of tasks including essay writing, student exercises and an examination.
Future prospects? Students successfully completing the course are accredited by the OCNNWR and QAA Approved, achieving a nationally recognised qualification for entry to Higher Education.
When will the programme start? The programme will start in September.
How long will it take? Attendance is one evening a week for a year and by distance learning. There will be additional tutorial and on-line support and IT sessions where appropriate.
What about the Money? Please note that fee remission applies to anyone on a means tested benefit, job seekers allowance, a programme designated as Skills for Life (SfL) or where someone is studying their first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 (aged 19 25). If you are under 19 on the 31 August 2009 you would not normally pay tuition or registration fees. If a programme is Full Cost then no fee remission is applicable.
