This an intensive course which is intended to provide a qualification equivalent to A-level (level 3), recognised by universities sufficient for entry to related degree courses such as social work, nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy and paramedic science. The course has outstanding success rates, lecturers are positive and passionate to provide the best possible experience and support to all students. There are three subject areas, human physiology, psychology and sociology.

What you need to know
How will I study?

The course is made up of 60 credits (45 graded and 15 ungraded); 21 of these are in human physiology (all graded), 18 in psychology (15 graded), 12 in sociology (9 graded).Students will work on and develop their skills in: scientific enquiry, laboratory experiments, essay writing, preparing and giving presentations and in-class timed assessments. Units will include: in Physiology – ‘Biology for Health Professions’, ‘Body Movement’ and ‘Body System Coordination’; in Psychology – ‘Early Social Development’, ‘Conformity and Obedience’ and ‘Understanding Stress’; in Sociology – ‘Health Studies’, ‘Health Promotion’ and ‘Understanding Mental Health Difficulties’. You will complete the course with an Extended Project, a detailed investigation and report on a health-related subject of your choice from either physiology, psychology or sociology); this will include continuous support by a dedicated project mentor, and take place over 6 weeks between May and June 2016.
How will I be taught?

You will attend two 3-hour lessons in physiology a week, one 3-hour lesson in psychology a week and one 2-hour sociology lesson a week. There will also be a dedicated hour of tutorial time every week, where you can have one-to-one meetings with the course leader.
How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed using 1500-2000-word essays, 1500-2000-word reports, group presentations, subject-specific controlled assessments and the creation of leaflets/posters. There is no end-of-course exam.
