About this course
Students are expected to have at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language. For those with fewer GCSE qualifications, work experience or alternative qualifications may be taken into account. In all cases a diagnostic assessment would need to be completed before a place is offered, as well as a one to one interview to assess suitability for the course.

Who is the programme for? The course is ideal for mature students who have some experience and qualifications already, and who wish to enhance their career prospects by gaining entry to higher education. It is also suitable for people who have been out of education for some time and need to 'brush up' their academic skills.
What will I study? Students will study 5 subjects. Entry to the Programme?
How is it assessed? The programme is assessed through a variety of assignments including essays, examinations, seminars, reports etc.
Future prospects? Students progress directly on to higher education, often into a degree in Social Work. Other degrees that students have gone on to include Sociology, Social Policy, Psychology,Criminology,Urban Studies, and related social science subjects. St Helens College offers progression on to the BA(Hons)degree in Cultural Studies and the Foundation Degree in Social Policy, Health and Housing .
When will the programme start? The course starts in September.
How long will it take? This full time day course lasts for one academic year.Attendance is for 16 hours per week.
