Access to Nursing and Health Studies is aimed at students who wish to apply for a nursing diploma or degree or similar related course in higher education, for example - physiotherapy. The course can be studied full time (1 year) or part time, day or evenings (2 years). A January start is also available which is part time in Maths, English and Study Skills.

If you are aged under 19 years, you MUST have significant life experience in order to be considered as suitable for the Access programme. These are national guidelines (QAA).

Entry is subject to satisfactory diagnostic and interview.

Course Content
Students study the 'core' modules of Mathematics, English and Study Skills. Some exceptions are possible for those who have GCSE's (gained within the last 5 years).
In addition the modules below are normally studied.

·Human Biology - Body Systems and genetics
·Health Studies - psychology of health.

Students can take additional modules in physics, chemistry and counselling, or combine Biology with Psychology.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment on the course is ongoing through assignments. Some assignments are written, some practical. Timed and in-class assessment is also used.
What can I do next?
Students can apply for a range of health care/studies higher education courses including Diplomas and degrees in Nursing.
Students gain a nationally recognised QAA Approved Access to HE Certificate.
