About the course
Summary:
You can do Access to Nursing through 5 GCSEs at grades C or above in one year. This is accepted by King’s College, University of London and other Universities. The course is specially designed for mature students which also concentrates on developing the skills and abilities necessary for successful study at diploma and degree level.
Details:
You will study the following core skills:
- researching and writing for academic purpose
- Study Skills & Self Management
- effective communication skills
- working with others Tutorial
- calculation and data handling
- information communication technology.
The programme runs for one year and successful completion of five (5) GCSE subjects at grades C or above will make you eligible to apply for an entry interview to a University Nursing and/or Midwifery Diploma or Degree programme.
Teaching methods:
Teaching is focused on active student-centred learning. Keynote lectures will be combined with tutorials, case scenarios, guided studies, small group work and student-led seminar presentation.
Teaching is delivered by a team of experienced trained teachers and health specialists.
Assessment:
Credits are gained for a variety of tasks such as essays, reports, oral presentations and some timed assessments. You will complete your course by taking the GCSE examination in January or June.
Student support:
Academic support to be given by personal tutors.
Typical skills on completion:
The programme runs for one year and successful completion of Access Programme means that you are eligible to apply for an interview for the Midwifery, Nursing (Adult) and Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing.
Career opportunities:
This programme will provide you with sufficient credits to undertake a diploma or degree in Nursing or Midwifery at HE level.
