ACCESS to Teaching
What will I do?
This is a very popular course which gives students the basic requirements for entry into teacher training. The course covers two areas of the National Curriculum in the specialist subjects:
  • Human Biology
  • English Literature

To study for a degree in teaching, students need GCSE Mathematics, English and Science at pass level or equivalents. (Maths and English GCSE qualifications are provided in the Core Studies programme.)

Students also need to complete the Core Studies programme in order to achieve the requisite number of credits to gain the ACCESS to Teaching Diploma.

Assessment
Students are assessed through a mixture of coursework, essays, projects, presentations and in-class tests. In GCSE English and Mathematics equivalents there are externally set tests.

Progression
After successfully completing the course, students may go on to study for a degree with qualified teacher status (Primary or Secondary). It is important that students fully research the teaching qualification on offer before starting this course. Help and advice will be given on request.

How long is the course?
One year (34 weeks)
Daytime only between 9.30am and 3.00pm, 16 hours per week, Monday to Friday. SEEVIC College follows school half-terms.

This course can be studied on a part-time basis over two years. The classes are during the day and your attendance requirements can be discussed with the course leader.
