This professionally accredited degree programme is focussed on the core disciplines of:

  • financial accounting,
  • management accounting, and
  • finance.

Although many graduates go on to train as chartered accountants, the degree can also lead to a wide choice of career options, such as finance or general management. Successful students can gain exemptions from some of the accounting professional examinations.

Course Content
All students take modules covering a range of business disciplines, including accounting, finance, management, economics and law. These are supported by modules in mathematics, statistics, and IT. All subjects are compulsory at Stage 1.

At Stages 2 and 3 students focus on the core disciplines of financial accounting, management accounting, and finance. A wide range of options is available at Stage 3 in accounting and finance, and in other business disciplines such as economics, marketing and management.

Entrance requirements:

  • A levels AAB - excluding general studies plus GCSE grade B in Mathematics and English.
  • Scottish Highers AAABB plus Standard Grade 2 in English and Mathematics if not taken at Higher level.
  • Irish Leaving Certificate - AAABB including Mathematics.
  • International Baccalaureate - 34 points plus Mathematics grade 5 at standard level if not taken at higher level
  • BTEC National Diploma - two distinctions and one merit. Business related subjects preferred.
  • BTEC Higher National Diploma - in a relevant subject to include six Merits and six Distinctions
  • Access Qualifications - a module in business studies is desirable (three modules at Distinction/Credit level for HEFC)
