Taking a foundation year means you’ll be eased into degree-level learning. The year allows you to enter directly onto the full degree course even if you don’t have the relevant entry qualifications.
We’ll help you develop practical accounting and business skills so that you will be well prepared for work in a range of sectors including accountancy, financial services, banking, taxation, insurance and the public sector.
During the course, you'll learn to produce financial accounts and interpret financial statements. And we’ll give you the knowledge to make important managerial and financial decisions.
Employers value practical experience and so do we. You can take a placement year between your third and fourth year of study.
As well as mastering accounting software, you'll learn to communicate with specialist and non-specialist audiences. You'll gain a solid understanding of personal and business taxation.

The foundation year gives you a good grounding in all aspects of finance. As well as insight into the world of accounting, you’ll be able to decide whether you want to progress on to the full degree or another related subject.

During the first year, you’ll have the opportunity to practice academic skills and develop a personal development plan. The second year includes a module entitled Employability and Study Skills which further guides the students in developing the personal employability skills that employers will look for in our graduates. These skills include effective team working, good communication skills, confident presentation skills and adept IT skills.
In your final year, you'll cover problem solving and analysis in a complex business context. You'll also develop research and data analysis skills in preparation for a financial research project and you'll acquire the qualities needed for either employment or further study and training.
