Course programme

Accounting is a versatile discipline, constantly evolving in response to the challenges of a dynamic economic, political and social economy. It is at the heart of all business decisions and encompasses a vast range of careers from traditional auditing to global management consulting. Our experienced team has created engaging and quality programmes which capture the diversity of this topical area, developing an understanding of both the national and the global dimensions of this discipline. Our programmes provide a sound and relevant educational foundation for an array of careers in industry, practice, the service sector or for self-employment. The single honours Accounting programme is structured to achieve maximum exemptions with the professional accounting bodies; the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). For those who plan to pursue a professional accounting qualification post-graduation, the exemptions expedite your chosen professional qualification, and usually appeal to prospective employers. Students on the combined honours programmes access some of the accredited modules. These are combined with other discipline-specific modules so that post-graduation students have the flexibility to pursue roles requiring an understanding of Accounting, without committing to a career as an accountant. On all of our Accounting degree programmes, knowledge, critical analysis and interpersonal skills are developed through lectures, seminars, workshops and a variety of assessment modes. These satisfy academic, professional, and commercial requirements. Guest speakers are regularly invited to address our students, with our annual ‘Accounting Futures’ event promoting student interaction with businesses and with accounting firms.
