Module 1. Life Coaching and You

This module explores the role of the coach in wide-ranging situations by giving an in-depth discussion of life coaching in a creative way using quotes and providing and encouraging an introspective look by thinking about the numerous reasons people seek a coach. Various techniques in the successful deliver y of coaching such as how to encourage and the use of appropriate questioning to build up a preliminary client session is examined. Module 2. Essential Qualities

This module focuses on the qualities that a Life Coach needs to possess and develop in order to be a positive influence and provide a confidential service to the client. The coach requires clients to complete an interview form in order to provide the Coach with a detail of their background and needs. How this can then be used to tailor a plan for the client is considered.

Module 3. Interviewing a Client and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

This module demonstrates how to build a client relationships, maintaining confidence and trust of clients, and delivering high quality services, while managing client expectations. The interviewing technique is taught as it is key to the successful coach and also enables the coach to see the client as a whole. Key techniques will be examined and developed as the course progresses.

The NLP component of this module is a stand-alone course in itself. NLP brings together the three areas of the mind, our use of language, and our behaviour to achieve our goals. "Neuro" relates to neurology, the study of the mind and how we think, "linguistics" covers our use of language and how is has an affects and "programming" addresses how actions are sequenced to achieved desired outcomes. The basic premise is that it useful and desirable for coaches to appreciate the nature and applications of NLP, particularly since there are strong links and similarities between many NLP concepts, strategies and techniques widely used in coaching. The Module adopts an objective, informative, and questioning approach to NLP. It outlines the benefits of NLP in promoting positive thinking, effective communication, and encouragement to use one's internal resources to "change one's state" to achieve well-formed outcomes.

Module 4. Relationships, Sexuality and Bereavement

This module explores the techniques used to draw information out of the client in order to get them to recognise how they are feeling. This is developed to coach in a different situation such as coaching couples. The module covers wide-ranging relationships from workplace to family to couple counselling and discussing sexuality. The issues that break-down elements within relationship e.g. work pressure or loss of self-esteem are discussed.

The stages of dying, terminal illness, loss and the tasks of mourning follow as they refer to a final end of a relationship. The coach can have a huge part to play in these situations by helping people to identify the various stages of emotions and feelings that arise out of bereavement. Many clients will benefit from a mourning plan and dealing with the vast array of emotions they may be feeling. Various techniques, defences and coping styles are explored to address perspectives of loss and adjusting to an environment missing a loved one.

The course also covers coaching clients with financial problems since addictions can give rise to debt or money worries, both for them and their families.

Module 6. Stress, Depression and Suicide

Many of today's largest problem areas that are encountered by clients are examined in this module. The causes of anxiety, stress and depression are discussed by providing opportunity to work through detailed practical steps and goal setting processes that assist the client with these issues. Suicide must be taken seriously and ways to tackle what gives rise to it and any possible interventions are explored. Healthy coping styles, relaxation techniques, stress management systems, stressors and time management are explained as ways to challenge and reduce stress, depression and suicide.

Information will also be given to offer coaching within the context of career and workplace. Businesses use experienced staff to coach new or less experienced employees or bring in external coaches to train and problem-solve, e.g. to manage a conflict that is affecting production or help increase the profits by motivating employees to work better and raise the quality of the service on offer.
