INTRODUCTION
This diploma is designed to explore Sports Psychology. There will be a brief historical overview and exploration of the scientific or theoretical, versus implementation or practical applications. So the discussions will centre on how sports psychology came into being and its evolvement over recent years; it has become a mainstay of both amateur and professional sporting performance and skills enhancement, and is used from the very basic to professional levels.

This course consists of Ten Units and is a qualification awarded by Oxford Learning College, in its own right; with the quality assurance of a leading awarding body (CIE/ABC) that hallmarks this professional qualification.
Assessment Objectives (AO)
AO: 1
Students must select and demonstrate clearly relevant knowledge and understanding through the use of evidence, examples and correct language and terminology appropriate to the course of study. This assessment, involves two written assignments: one halfway through the course and following the final unit. Both are assessed and graded by the assigned tutor, according to college procedures.
AO: 2
Students must critically evaluate and justify a point of view through the use of evidence and reasoned argument. Students can include evidence in different formats to support their written work such as documentation or images to support their course.
Quality of Written Communication (QWC)
In addition, OLC require students’ to produce written material in English, candidates must: ensure that text is legible and that spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPG) are accurate so that meaning is clear; select and use a form and style of writing appropriate to studying a complex subject matter; organise information clearly and coherently, using specialist vocabulary when appropriate and Harvard referencing of citation and sources. In this Specification, SPG will be assessed in all tutor marked assignments (TMAs)

COURSE CONTENT
The whole level three diploma has TEN (10) specific units of study, which are sub-divided into topic areas these are:
Unit 1: In the beginning
In this unit you will learn about strategies for success and identifying your own role in both understanding personality and thereby your own psyche, such as examination of one's own personality, you will be better placed to identify key markers in other individuals and this will be an invaluable skill to develop whether you are in the role of a sports trainer, psychologist, coach, or just using the skills for personal performance enhancement and skills training.
Unit 2: Participation and learning
Within this unit you will explore personality and identity, and what makes us competitive; there are many theories of identity used in multiple fields such as psychology, healthcare, business and philosophy.
Unit 3: Stress and anxiety
Through this unit you will be able to explore anatomy, physiology, and the impact of these on physiological response. You will review how stress occurs and how to settle and reduce it.
Unit 4: The sports environment
Here you will discover at what happens during competition and examine feedback, reinforcement and the principles of rewarding behaviours, both extrinsic and intrinsic.
Unit 5: Group dynamics
In this unit you will explore group behaviour in depth and study some of the most influential theories and personal desires.
Unit 6: Performance dynamics
You will explore the presentation of We will explore the concepts of goal setting and bring into these issues of cognitive behaviour – in other words how we can change behaviour in order to promote performance enhancement.
Unit 7 & 8: Health and wellbeing part 1 and 2
How you review athletic injuries and the role of sports psychology in injury rehabilitation. There will be discussion about burnout and excessive training, looking specifically at definitions, measurement and prevention of these incidents.
Unit 9: Children and sports psychology
This unit will allow you to discover the development of children such as growing physically and developing mentally, being particularly susceptible to role model influence and adult coercion. The module will look briefly at the key stages of child development.
Unit 10: Psychology, growth and development
In this final unit you will gain knowledge of character building, aggression and anger in sports. You will learn how to channel aggression into positives. A great opportunity to put your knowledge of this course into practice within your last unit.
ASSESSMENT
The coursework is assessed through continuous assessment with no formal exit examinations. Through assessment you will cover certain criteria such as:
- Theoretical Knowledge/ Understanding
- Practical Implications
- Integration of Theory and Practice.
The course has TWO Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA); which are graded: Pass or Fail. The grading procedure if Pass or Fail. Your grade will depend upon if the criteria set ha been met and the decision of your tutor. If you Fail an assessment you have the opportunity to amend where your tutor has highlighted and resubmit.
