The ACS CCN1 assessment is for existing gas professionals whose CCN1 qualification has run out for longer than 1 year or candidates who have undergone specialist training (GGFO course certification holders) towards gaining the ACS Core Gas Safety (CCN1) qualification or fully qualified NVQ heating or plumbing operatives wishing to acquire domestic gas qualifications.

Course programme
- Candidates are required to demonstrate safe working practice and competence upon installing, commissioning and servicing domestic gas installations and appliances to include:
- Visual inspection of gas installation pipe work, flues and appliances (identification of faults and defects).
- Inspection and calculation of ventilation for open flue, flueless and room sealed appliances in various multiple scenarios.
- Full gas tightness testing on both low and medium pressure installations.
- Purging procedures for metric and imperial metered gas installations.
- Checking the standing pressure, meter regulator working pressure and appliance inlet supply pressure.
- Checking and setting appliance burner pressures and conducting gas rates on both imperial and metric gas meters.
- Visually checking burner flame pictures for complete and incomplete combustion.
- Testing and confirming the shut-down times for flame supervision devices fitted to various appliance burners.
- Checking and confirming catchment spaces and conducting a flue flow test and a spillage test on open flue appliances.
- Checking and testing flue and case seals on room sealed appliances.
- Identification and classification of the Gas Industry Unsafe Situations and Procedures for various scenarios.
- Demonstrating the safe and effective jointing of gas pipes to include soldered and compression fittings on copper tube and screwed joints on steel tube.
- Demonstrating the correct use of the Temporary Earth Continuity bond and conducting an Air Test to ensure integrity.
- Calculating the correct size of gas pipe required (in accordance with current standards) for a theoretical scenario.
- Demonstrating the correct use of the electronic flue gas analyser by conducting a series of performance tests on open flue, flueless and room sealed gas appliances.
- The identification, operation and testing of gas appliance safety devices and controls. Explain by written descriptor their function and operation and identify any controls not operating correctly.
