Course Outline:

This course is aimed at anybody who is currently working in or considering employment in an office environment. It will give you an overview and experience of the duties that you would be required to carry out in many modern offices.

Course Content:

The NVQ is made up of a number of units that will enable you to demonstrate that you are competent in performing a number of administrative tasks.

Some of these units are mandatory, while others are optional to allow you to look at an area of work that is of particular interest to you.

We can offer an NVQ in Administration at Levels 1, 2 and 3 depending upon the kind of work you are currently involved with and the level of experience you have. For those not in suitable employment there is a mandatory requirement to complete an extended work placement in order to demonstrate competence and gather the required evidence.

Level 1:

  • This looks at simple tasks around the office such as producing simple documents, inputting data onto a computer, filing and copying routine documents. It also looks at Health and Safety in an office.
  • The tasks that are performed at this level are often done under supervision.

Level 2:

  • This builds upon skills gained at Level 1. The tasks you will be undertaking will be more complicated and you will take more responsibility for their completion.
  • Additional tasks may include customer service and reception duties, mail, stock control and some financial duties.
  • This work will be carried out with limited supervision.

Level 3:

  • This is for people who will be working at a more senior level and generally have responsibility for other staff. It is usually for people with at least 2 years experience and who have a more supervisory role within the company.
  • Additional tasks include setting up and improving systems within your company, contributing to personnel selection, leading the work of teams and some responsibility for the maintenance of premises and equipment.
  • We would also recommend you to take single subject examinations in Word Processing, Shorthand or Desk Top Publishing to complement these courses.
