What could I study?
ESB (English Speaking Board) - Oral Communication Skills
This series of programmes offer carefully graded progression in oral communication. You will develop useful skills and build your confidence and self esteem through practical and enjoyable interactive oral communication.
OCR Entry Level Certificate in Citizenship Studies
This qualification is designed to recognise basic knowledge and understanding of citizenship issues and to encourage a practical involvement in citizenship and community activities. It is comprised of four units:
- Identifying rights and responsibilities
- Identifying communities and participating in community activities
- Participating in decision-making and recognising the role of government
- Recognising the individual as a world citizen
WorkSkills is a new flexible suite of units that offer learners the opportunity to gain relevant, job-related skills. The suite has been designed for ultimate flexibility and allows you to work towards units that will truly be valuable in gaining or retaining employment.
Some of the units studied could include:
- Positive alternatives to paid work
- Managing your own health at work
- Searching for a job
- Applying for a job
- Preparing for an interview
- Interview skills
- Learning from work placement
You will also work towards the British Red Cross First Aid Certificate, which is a comprehensive training programme covering key life saving skills, common emergencies and minor medical complaints.

When you come for assessment we will work with you to identify the appropriate start date, duration, level of study, content and qualification which will help you achieve your personal and employment goals.
What next?
Work placement opportunities can be arranged to help you gain practical experience within the business world. You may have the opportunity to work within one of the College's busy teams (i.e. Marketing, the General Office, Sales, the Access Centre) or even within the College's Training Office.
The experience you have gained will help signpost you towards the next step - finding employment or voluntary work.
