About the course
Who is the Apprenticeship for?
The training programme is intended for new or existing staff working in or providing support within a child care environment. It is suitable for people in job roles such as residential care workers. How is the training delivered?
This training programme is mainly delivered and assessed in the workplace. There are also monthly off the job workshops held at Farnborough College of Technology.

Entry requirements
The entry criteria are staff aged and over with GCSEs A*-C in Maths and English. GCSE’s will be considered along with the results of an initial assessment. This is a rolling programme.

Subjects Covered What does the Apprenticeship cover? Learners will choose a pathway which relates to their workplace. There are two pathways; Early years or Social care. The programme includes the following four components: 1. Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce (Level 3): Mandatory Units • Understand child & young person development • Promote child/young person development • Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children & young people • Support children & young people’s health and safety • Develop positive relationships with children, young people and other involved in their care • Working together for the benefit of children and young people • Understand how to support positive outcomes for children & young people • Promote communication in children’s & young people settings • Engage in personal development in children’s & young people settings • Promote equality and inclusion in children’s & young people settings • Principles for implementing duty of care in children’s & young people’s settings Further optional units will need to be completed to achieve this qualification. 2. Functional Skills: English, Maths and ICT Level . Award in Employment Rights & Responsibilities Level 2 4. Personal Thinking & Learning Skills On completion What are the benefits?
