The Higher Apprenticeship in Construction Management and the Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering Environmental Technologies enable career progression through the apprenticeship route. A wide range of further study opportunities also exist at Higher National Certificate, Foundation degree and undergraduate degree level.

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Construction Technical is for those who are seeking to start a technical, supervisory or managerial career in the construction industry. It is also suitable for those who have relevant experience but do not have a relevant technical qualification. Three pathways are offered: -built environment and design -construction contracting operations -civil engineering for technicians. The built environment and design pathway is suitable for those seeking to work as a Construction Design Technician, or similar. Examples of unit content in this pathway include: investigating factors affecting project development in built environment design; producing and recommending detailed design solutions; preparing drawing and schedules; maintaining professional relationships and practice in built environment design. The construction contracting operations pathway is suitable for those seeking to work as a Construction Technician, or similar. Examples of unit content in this pathway include: operating health, safety and welfare systems in construction, preparing programmes and schedules of work, operating project information systems, developing and maintaining working relationships and personal development in construction, integrating and controlling project design information. The civil engineering for technicians pathway is suitable for those seeking to work as a Civil Engineering Technician, or similar. Examples of unit content in this pathway include: techniques, procedures and methods for civil engineering tasks; developing and finalising civil engineering solutions, management and leadership in civil engineering; commercial awareness in civil engineering and sustainable development in civil engineering. You will achieve a Level 3 NVQ Diploma plus an additional Level 3 Diploma is awarded for each pathway. Unless exempt on entry, you will also achieve Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in English and maths.You will learn through a combination of on- and off-the-job training. You will attend college on a day release basis during term time and spend the rest of your time earning and learning in the workplace. You will be assessed on a continuous basis through a combination of knowledge and practical assessment activities, including assessment of activities in the workplace. The Apprenticeship has a minimum duration of 18 months unless you are aged 19 or older and have undertaken relevant prior learning. The typical duration is 24 months. Your progress will be continuously monitored and supported by an Apprenticeship Achievement Officer.
