The typical learner for this qualification will be 19 years plus, working in industry, ideally holding a Level 3 Automotive Technical Qualification and have three or more years of industry experience. They will have experience of diagnosing and rectifying faults on a wide range of vehicle systems, including electrical system operations. This qualification also meets the knowledge (Vocationally Related Qualification) requirement for the IMI SSC Higher Apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, for the 'Advanced Diagnostics and Management Principles' pathway.

Course programme

Learners will demonstrate their knowledge and skills by passing IMI Awards' set assignments for all units and passing IMI Awards' set online tests. There are also two College set practical assessments. The qualification consists of five units: Advanced Internal Combustion Engine Technology Advanced Vehicle Driveline and Chassis Technology Alternative Fuel Vehicles Knowledge of Providing Technical Support and Advice to Colleagues in Motor Vehicle Environments Knowledge in conducting Diagnostic Consultations with Customers in Motor Vehicle Environments
