Course programme
This programme is designed to take students with little or no experience and equip them with the most fundamental and useful of bushcraft skills.
The course will run in a five day block followed by a further three day block leaving time for a consolidation period in between (this varies between the two courses from 9 to 32 days allowing you time to practice and perfect your skills). We are able to offer both of these courses during the school holidays for the convenience of any teachers who may wish to attend. The skills are assessed and a small portfolio of suporting evidence demonstrating knowledge is produced. This can take the form of written work or be a record of verbal examination.
Progression
Successful candidates could use the qualification for continued professional development or progress onto to our instructor programme.
If you have any questions or would like more information about this course please feel free to contact us for an informal chat.
Target group
The course has been designed as a stand alone qualification for outdoor practitioners who already hold high level teaching and leadership qualifications and do not wish to attend our full instructor programme. As well as being designed for teachers, forest school leaders and youth workers, it has also been intended for members of the public who wish to formalise their bushcraft education by accrediting their training.
Content
The course is divided into 3 mandatory categories and covers the following subjects in depth:
Outdoor Living Skills - bushcraft skills including fire, water, shelter, equipment and clothing.
Natural History - plant identification and use, identification of tracks and sign and wild foods.
Craft - tool use and selection, craft items including cordage, carving and camp crafts.
Accreditation
This entire qualification has been accredited by the NCFE as a level three qualification. This means that the subjects mentioned above are taught and learned at an advanced level. The process of assesment and accreditation is is run by the NCFE who are responsible for the quality assurance and control exactly as they would be with any other award they run.
Certification
The qualification is endorsed by the NCFE throughout who are responsible for certification. Successful candidates will receive a certificate in Advanced Bushcraft Award Level 3 with both Woodcraft School and the NCFE logo present.
Woodcraft School has very recently become an accredited NCFE Centre and head instructor, John Rhyder has written several totally new and bespoke qualifications for bushcraft that are not available anywhere else in the country. NCFE are perhaps the oldest organisation of their kind in the country operating in the same way as other awarding bodies such as City and Guilds etc.
Fees
Please note that this is not a funded course but you might be able to get support from your work place or through some funding awards - (speak to us as we may be able to give you some ideas).
