Course Description

The Advanced Training course is designed to give you a better understanding of the advanced application development topics such as database, resolution independence, engine development, DDE and DLLs.

  • Database: You will create an application which uses the Database icon to create or open an existing database file (DBase), locate a record and modify it, or add a record to the database. Then you will create a second application using the Database object (ODBC) to retrieve certain pieces of a database record and display a report of that record.
  • Resolution Independence: Using the Window icon and the WinRez sample application you create a resolution independent application.
  • CBT Engine Development: You will create an engine that will execute an exam that could be fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, true/false, or a mix of all three, and will require little maintenance when changes need to be made. Updating the exam will be done primarily from a text editor rather than recreating an .IW. Variable files will be used to store the engine application variables. The Shuffle icon and the Parse icon will be used to randomise the question order and parse the variable strings.
  • DDE/DLL: Review and discuss sample templates. DDE calls can only be used with other types of executables that are DDE supported. DLL calls can only be used if we have DLLs to call. To create your own DLLs, you need to know C programming and have Windows Software Development Kit (Windows SDK). We look at DLLs from their usage viewpoint rather than their creation.
